Well, then we have a problem because there's nothing to use at a scapegoat and blame it on. If we don't exist, then our problems technically don't exist. But I suppose telling that to someone who's encircled by ravenous beasts it would be useless.
Meh. I dunno.

"According to my deranged English teacher, we don't exist. She frequently randomly declares in the middle of speeches about William Shakespeare's or somethig we are figments of our own imagination because our subconscious is powerful enough to do something like that. "
The fact that we actually have a subconscious and an imagination to imagine our own existence, that at least proves that we exist in some form.
hmm, i don't believe we exist. some say that the whole universe, every little thing we know or have seen is just in our minds..everyone sees the world differently and somehow it doesn't make any sense that someone or "something" created everything....in a sense we exist but only in our minds.

I think therefore I am...or something like that. I know to some extent I do exist, but I don't know if you exist. I only know I exist based on the "i think therefore i am"...thing. However, I believe we exist to some extent, but whether we exist in the form we believe we exist is another question
(I don't know if anyone else said that because I can't be bothered to go back after I've typed this)
First, that was aristotle's theory not shakespeares. He also said we're not moving too so.... I don't know. However, it could very well be true. I to have those odd feelings sometimes. I'm not sure about the whole thing ,however if we were the figment of someones amagination why would he or she be making us question what they know is already fact?
Solipsism is an interesting concept, if flawed. Most idealistic speak of being the only thing which exists is, as Aristotle would call it, "Idle chatter.". Such epistemological beliefs are based upon skepticism and quite a bit of self-denial, which is ironic considering it is the belief that the only thing which is not denied is yourself. The problem is that, if the only thing that exists is you and figments of your imagination, it can neither be proved or dissproved, as there exists nobody other then yourself to convince it to, and you are already convinced of the answer, whatever that answer may be. Although most solipsism is epistemological, the kind discussed here it more metaphysical. That is, they deal more with world fundamentals.
No matter how dimly aware a conscience is, a conscience is always aware of something. That is one of the few universal laws of philosophy which I agree with. Therefore, in order for solipsism to be valid, the conscience must be aware of something. In this case, that something is perception. As well, this perception must gain its ideas to perceive from an objective force, outside of the level of perceiving indirectly. It is a simple premise, and it's odd to think that such a simple matter of logic could be the undoing of such a complex ideal as solipsism.
Another way to dissprove this notion is understanding the way which perception is gained in relation to the actual method with which to gather this information to perceive. The human brain must form the observation, which will then translate into perception. Therefore, if this doctrine states that only perception exists, it not only must have an outside source to be perceived, but an outside source to prepare the perception.
Therefore, solipisism, while interesting, is flawed in many ways; in that it cannot neither be completely verified nor denied. It can merely be dissproven.
Such epistemological beliefs are based upon skepticism and quite a bit of self-denial, which is ironic considering it is the belief that the only thing which is not denied is yourself.
very ironic!
I am sure everyone has the thought that they are the only one there sometimes though....there is a song which evokes this feeling in me very strongly. It's "Right Where It Belongs" by Nine Inch Nails...here are some lyrics. though it works better with the song....I find listening to it while on a walk very interesting when I am in one of my odd moods...
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks?
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?
What if all the world's inside of your head
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you're really all alone?
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the woods
While you're hiding in the trees
