Eyes closed is a lot better in my opinion. It's more romantic, it's more intimate, and less awkward with your eyes closed, and as mel and devilish pointed out, it's incredibly creepy when the other person is staring at you. Kinda ruins it.. haha.

If its a long snog type kiss then closed eyes. Also closed eyes if it is meant to be romantic and intimate. However those quick quirky fun kisses its better with eyes open. Because that way you can see the look in their eyes when the lips touch for those few seconds. haha but closed is preferable.

The best thing to do is to do what I do. Kiss but squint. That way you can see if your partner's eyes are open or closed. Either that or wait for them to close their eyes first.
