My freind and Iona and I have recently began to take an interest in meditation and yoga.
I have set up a corner in my room for where i can do it in but im not really sure about it.
I have tried it already in my religious studies lessons at school and printed out a copy of how to do it as a guide.
I dont find it very helpful so i just find myself doing the same thing each time, breathing in and out and saying hong sau in my mind, it doesnt give an effect, i dont know whether its just me doing it wrong or not, im not really sure, has anybody on here got any ideas for me from which i can develop my meditation progress on?
and i am interested in yoga
Meditation has no strict dogma. The positions and words you are given are merely tools to aid the performance. All that you need is to find a position, and possible words, which are comfortable for you to practice meditation with. You're not doing it wrong.
I'm not so versed in the field of yoga. Sorry.

Thanks anyway, yeah now i see that i suppose you are right, and dont worry about the yoga part of this.
I have just been doing it in my r.s and wondered if there was a particular way of doing it

You're welcome.
There's no dogma for most elements of spirituality. It is whatever works for the person attempting to actually use the techniques.

Some of the techniques we used involved tensing and untensing our muscles, it supposed to relax us but i found myself aching, then we had to start the meditation by walking up a hill to meet a wise man, then you would ask him a question, next you had to become the man and answer the question, afterward when you were yourself again you were given a gift
I think the whole point was to answer your own questions and think about things.
This meditation resulted in some of my class mates crying due to the questions they asked which were about death of a loved one or why questions.
I didnt find this efective, i found myself bringing back memories fromt he past that i didnt like.
The question part, I believe, would be a motivational tool. An extra bonus for actually doing the meditation. I'm not certain that I approve of those methods, especially if it ended with everyone feeling bad. Then again, I'm no meditation expert, so what do I know?

Your views are helpful, you claim to not know but your helping me so thanks
It seems we are the only ones replying but we are the only ones online...
ah well, anyway,
yes i does seem strange that it made people upset, i suppose it relys on the questions asked whilst doing meditation, some people say ask questions about things but others suggest thoughts, thinking about people you love and why you love them, it all involves having your back straight for breathing and trying to relax but i dont see how people relax when they aren't asking a question of happiness..

Lol. It's nice to know I'm being of aid. Thank you. As well, you're welcome.
People are not often online here, from what I've been able to tell in my short time of being on this forum. I believe we've both already posted more then this forum usually receieves daily now.
Indeed. There are times for asking such questions, but it is not when you are attempting to comfort yourself. You can't perform anything good when you have a burden of sadness on your shoulders, least of all trying to achieve a state of peace.
